Design Playground: Musing 1: Design, leadership, mindfulness & play
Musings about design, leadership, mindfulness and play
Hello world. I’m Kristina and I’ve spent over the past decade working in a myriad of settings that have empowered me to dig deep in my craft for design, leadership, mindfulness and play. Why did I decide to start a stack? I have too many thoughts and too much content that flows through my brain on a daily basis and a deep passion for learning from other design leaders and helping designers navigate tricky terrain. So I figured, why not?

Design to me is the lens for how I see the world. Leadership is in my bones, though often in need of calcium. Mindfulness is a somatic practice I continually fail at yet learn from each day. Play is something that changed the game for me — it’s something children are innately good at, yet we as adults must continually relearn.
The common thread between design, leadership, mindfulness and play is a sense of deep attention to the world as it is and as it could be. It’s about observing things for how they are, seeking patterns and proposing alternative ways of seeing and being. Every person, situation and environment has the capacity for change. I believe these are the ingredients for crafting meaningful connections with the people and world around us.
A goal of mine is to start a podcast where I interview a range of thought leaders around the topics of design, leadership, mindfulness and play. I intend for this Substack to be a baby step towards framing the foundation for it. I am excited to see where it goes and who I’ll meet along the way.
